Nine things I’ve learned

Posted on December 11, 2011

Before I send out a quote I now always ask myself the question “Is the amount I’ve quoted enough to make me feel motivated to do my best on this project?” I never send out a quote unless the answer is yes.

An excerpt from Mike Kus’ 24 ways article “Nine Things I’ve Learned” which really resonates with me. It is extremely tempting to undercharge for a project because you want to win it so much, but 80% of the time it’s these projects which come back to bite you in the ass.

Hero

Hero is an illustration composed of 3.2 million dots. At first I thought Miguel Endara was wasting his time with individual dots, but they add a lovely texture to the illustration.

Polaris, a free font

Posted on December 5, 2011

It blows my mind that type designers allow people to download their fonts for free, especially when they’re as nice as Polaris. I suggest you go and grab a copy of Polaris.

Floodfonts offers a new typeface for free download: POLARIS uses historical references as inspiration: slab-serif fonts in a turn-of-the-century style. In combination with modern elements and a technical-like drawing style the font develops an unusual, cool retro charm. Polaris comes with an extensive character set to support all central-european languages.
