Nine things I’ve learned

Posted on December 11, 2011

Before I send out a quote I now always ask myself the question “Is the amount I’ve quoted enough to make me feel motivated to do my best on this project?” I never send out a quote unless the answer is yes.

An excerpt from Mike Kus’ 24 ways essay “Nine Things I’ve Learned” which really resonates with me. It is extremely tempting to undercharge for a project because you want to win it so much, but 80% of the time it’s these projects which come back to bite you in the ass.

Not charging enough in a project means you’re less motivated to do a good job, so make sure you’re happy with the price before sending it out, if the client is making unreasonable demands then they’re probably not the kind of client you want.

The essay is packed with absolute belters like this, check it out here.
