Designers are selfless
If there’s one thing I know about designers, it’s that they’re a selfless group. About a week ago I asked the following question on Twitter (paraphrased):
As a designer, would you be more flattered if someone complimented how you look or how something you’ve designed looks?
I expected more people to say the latter flattered them, but I didn’t expect 100% of the responses to say they’d be more flattered if someone complimented their designs.
What do you think this says about the design industry? I think it’s a perfect representation of how most designers care more about their work than they do about themselves. How they’re perfectly willing to put their work on a pedestal, working late, sometimes for very little money just to do something they love.
I know this isn’t something unique to the design industry, but the industry is something I’m proud to be part of and I hope to be for the rest of my life.
